did you forget to include S3 Backup (Maluke Software) on this list? It seems like one of the most feature-ful programs, including encrypted credentials (so if you lose your lappie no one can find out your key), password protection, encryption and compression, and what seems like a fast, smooth transfer mechanism. Most important for me were password protection of the app and encryption for uploads.

Hi, I’m actually a developer at SMEStorage. I’m not sure why David R thinks we posted this ‘review’. To my knowledge we didn’t (although I’m not a marketeer), and we did create the Facebook plug-n from a customer request viewpoint, although I could not tell you it was specifically for this guy “John Woodcock”.

We do have a really nice new windows update coming out to our tooling which we are looking for beta users for. It is Windows 7 ready, and it supports streaming of MP3′s and videos, creation of MP3 winamp ‘cloud’ playlists, sync tools, shell integration, public and private file seach and more. It supports Amazon S3, Mosso Cloud Files, MobileMe, GMail, Gmail Apps, Box.net, FTP, Email (POP3 and IMAP needed), and WebDav clouds, and will support Microsoft Live Skydrive also in the next couple of week.

As always these can be used as separate accounts or all accounts together with all files viewed in one file system.

Ironically, I found this page while searching for a review of SMEStorage. I was looking over their site and it certainly does look like an interesting service. Do you know anyone who has used or reviewed it? I’d like to know how well it performs for a “real” user.

Yes, it is an blatant ad but I think people are smart enough to figured it out so I approved a comment anyway. In fact I’d prefer them to be honest and just suggest their tool instead of trying to make it look like it was someone else…

Personally I will NEVER touch smestorage, due to their unethical advertising. They posted on this blog claiming to be a happy customer, but in reality, “Woodcock” is an employee of smestorage. I hate companies that lie in their advertising like this.

I think you missed probably the most innovative which is SMEStorage.com – I’ve been using this service to manage my S3 files for a while now. They have some nice windows tooling which includes a virtual drive, and integrations with MS Office and Open Office and built in collaboration and sharing features. You can download the windows tooling at http://tinyurl.com/klsfbf.

I use their service to scheudule an FTP backup to Amazon S3 and to backup my Amazon S3 Service to Google Docs. I can also manage my Amazon S3 files from their iPhone web app: http://www.thesmespace.com/smeutils/msmestorage and from their Firefox plug-in.

Many of my files are pictures as I am a photographer so I use their facebook plug-in to post my S3 files to Facebook.

Anyway, the service is good and the team have always been very helpful to me (creating the facebook plug-in when I asked for it) so I’m happy to provide them this plug.

Thanks so much for mentioning CloudBerry Explorer in your post! Please also consider adding CloudBerry Backup which is a Windows alternative to JungleDisk.
